Bash Riprock’s
Bash Riprock’s was a favorite bar of many Clemson students in the mid-to-late 1980s, known for its unique Wild West flair. Tucked in a shopping center off College Avenue, Bash Riprock’s offered a mix of bar and nightclub elements – and it became infamous for one particular gimmick: a barber chair used for tequila shots. Upperclassmen would regale newcomers with how they “got in the barber chair for a tequila shot” at Bash’s, a daring rite of passage for underage adventurers (one alum admits he first entered Bash Riprock’s at age 15 to try the barber-chair shot)tigernet.com. The bar’s lively atmosphere, complete with country-rock music and a mechanical bull vibe (in spirit if not in actual equipment), made it a standout. Bash Riprock’s eventually rode off into the sunset (closing by the 1990s), but stories of its over-the-top antics – and that barber chair – live on in Clemson folk historytigernet.com.
